Make him an offer he can’t refuse

Make him an offer he can't refuseI’m watching the Godfather II and still feeling the cramping I’ve had on and off for the past several days. Whatever it is, it’s going around and yesterday I was down for the count. Today I was feeling better and that, coupled with my not firing up my laptop, resulted in some productivity in the way of packing in the basement.

What else happened today? Well, I was officially inducted into the exclusive club of those who have snuffed out animals in the rodent family with the help of a 3000 pound vehicle. Yep — I ran over a squirrel. My friend Jen was lucky enough to be on the phone with me as it happened. I saw the squirrel begin to cross so I slowed down but it seems the squirrel did too and the timing resulted in my front passenger tire relieving him of any worries about a hard winter. I looked in my rear-view mirror and saw the tail twitching which was quite a sight. I was giving the blow-by-blow to Jen over the phone but took her sage advice and stopped looking back and kept driving. Rest in peace, little rodent. Hope you’re having a grand time in squirrel heaven eating nuts the size of my fist. Oh, and tell your little friends to keep their flea-bitten asses out of my flower bed. Today was an accident but tell them not to get too cocky. They always say the first one is the hardest. Mwhahahaha!

[the above was written last night like a couple weeks ago.]

I’m feeling better and went downstairs this morning like a couple weeks ago to do more packing and cleaning. The mess those children are capable of is unreal. I swear there must be some gene mutation within them that forces them to deposit everything they own on.the.floor. I provide copious amounts of containers and baskets to sort and store things but apparently they aren’t as efficient as simply tossing their every belonging on the floor. So, instead of simply packing, I have to spend an equal time cleaning up the dungeon. Oh well. Serves me right for not going down there in so long. I should have cracked the whip long ago.

So yes, I haven’t blogged in quite some time. I’m not sure why but I haven’t felt like talking much about myself and stuff in general. In fact, I’d been pretty depressed. Nothing was getting done around here and when I’d come home I’d shut down so it was getting stressful, overwhelming and frustrating. After what I wrote above, I chatted with a friend and felt so much better. It felt good to get it out and commiserate with someone who has been there. I have the best friends in the world, I swear.

After getting myself to get up and do something and getting the much-needed pep talk, I’ve been feeling a lot better. I’ve also been getting stuff done and while it’s still not as fast or efficient as I’d like it to be, it’s better than nothing. Being that I’m the one doing 99% of all this, I take what I can get.

Halloween was very nice. The weather was perfect and while we had lots of kids, it was still less than in past years. As you know, Gracie was a queen, Iz was a princess and Iain was a firefighter. We sorted through all the good stuff and the rest is in the linen closet waiting for me to pitch.

I’m tired today not only for usual reasons but also because Iz keeps getting in bed with us. I told her that tonight she had to stay in hers because after getting in bed with us several times last night, I got no sleep. It’s sweet that she likes to be close and share our bed but there’s simply not enough room and a mom needs her sleep. She was sick with a fever over the weekend so we had a lot of cuddly moments and sleep together; now we need to stick to our own beds for awhile.
