Dove’s Onslaught
The ad below by Dove and its Campaign for Real Beauty makes me want to cry because it’s so true. I want to save my daughters from the onslaught of self-esteem-killing images and attitudes they’ll be experiencing soon (if not already — hello, Bratz).
Dove: “Talk to your daughter before the beauty industry does.”
Yes, please do — for their sake.

Oh, and P.S. to the FCC: shame on you for censoring some of these amazing commercials. It’s disgusting that you’ll deem images taking on the problems too revealing when you compare it to things you allow without the blink of an eye. Brittni gyrating with a snake in front of tweens is okay but the Pro-Age ad was too risque? Sort of makes me want to say, “Fuck you!” No, wait, it totally makes me want to say that.
“The Federal Communications Commission would not allow Dove to run its latest television commercials because they feature “implied nudity” of women over 50, revealed Maureen Shirreff, group creative director of Ogilvy & Mather Chicago.
She noted that the spots are on the Dove Web site and are also being broadcast around the world. “They [the FCC] wanted to see some presence of clothing,” Shirreff said. “They were really nice, and we don’t fault anyone.” She added that O&M and Dove felt that it would be impossible for the spots to be edited, as was suggested by the FCC, to pass federal muster.”
