The Great Purge - Day 2

My dogs are barking! Today I worked on the laundry room and Jeff worked on the room under the stairs.

Good God.

AnacinWe moved out bags and bags and bags of stuff. There were things from our first house that were moved to this house that haven’t been touched since 1986 and that’s only because they were moved. I found a bottle of Anacin that expired in October of 1984. We moved into the house Labor Day weekend, 1986. Yep. (In case you were wondering, they still make Anacin; I just checked.)

Iain was astounding helping with carrying bags up the stairs and out to the garage. The kid was enthusiastic about helping and at times we couldn’t keep up with giving him stuff to carry out. It did help a lot and my mom gave him $10 toward the remote control bulldozer he’s saving up for. We bought him a couple of bags of wood chips for the backyard that he can push around with his construction toys. The boy is excited.

My brother is supposed to come by tomorrow and move the rest of his things. Jeff is going to get him to remove some of the stuff that is his under the stairs. He has a couple fish tanks and Jeff is sick of hauling stuff out so he’ll persuade him to move his own junk. He’s supposed to be there between 10am and 1pm (I’m taking that to mean that he’ll be there during those hours and not just giving me a window for when he’ll stroll in) so I’m going to try and get everyone up and going so we can get there by 10am. I don’t want him to duck in and out and get out of helping where he should. I’ve cleaned up a lot of crap (and will be for a few more days) that he could have conquered after all these years so this is the least he can do.

I can’t wait until the stuff is out so that I can give that place a good scrub down. There is kitty litter every.freaking.where. Thankfully I haven’t seen evidence of any cat squeezins or urine so that’s good. The basement just smells of kitty litter. It’s unreal.

Tomorrow we finish the basement (and hopefully the scrub-down) and then head upstairs. Ugh
