The Great Purge - Day 1
Yesterday began the first day of the great purge at my mom’s house. I was a little overwhelmed at first because I wasn’t quite sure where to begin. I love my mother but the woman is hesitant to part with anything and we’re talking about not only 21 years in her current home but also things they moved from the home before that. Opening cupboards and seeing things so unorganized made me twitch. Now, I’m not talking about not having your spices alphabetically arranged; I’m talking about “open door — shove in” sort of disorganization. The more I really look around the more I realize how much storage space she has so she must be stopped! I’ll get her organized but I have to be gentle. Even though she says I’m now in charge and to do with everything as I’d like, she’s still lived there for many years and it will be odd for her. I don’t want it to be me taking over and throwing all her things away; the house just is sorely in need of order and has a lot of space in which to give everything its own home. We’ll be headed over there again in a little while for day two.
Iz woke me early morning yesterday but since then that’s been the last round of illness so let’s hope we’re over that now. I have way too much laundry but I can handle that. Let’s get well again and start the school year.
