100 Things - #96 and a guy named Becker
I’m going to incorporate two things I wanted to blog about in one post because what I was just perusing is the catalyst for the next entry on my list.
Being that I’m of advanced maternal age when it comes to (re) birthing a career (I’m an elderly 37 and yes, seeing that on the screen made me shudder just a touch) and fostering what sometimes feels like mid-life crisis-esque angst, this next entry seems ever so sexy to me. Like any other parent (and especially one to a child with special needs) I have responsibilities and commitments that come before doing anything like taking off on a moment’s notice.
Be patient; I’m getting there.
I’ve been checking out the work of a guy named Becker. He does amazing wedding work but what really caught my eye was more his personal work. I guess for me it’s more interesting because this is a tiny glimpse into an artist’s soul. You can see immense talent in his commissioned work but in his personal portfolio you really see where his passions lie. I adore his use of color and the way it saturates reality, making it a bit more delicious than it might be otherwise. And that’s what we want in an image, right?
Anyhow . . .
A portion of his personal portfolio is of a road trip he took with his girlfriend earlier in the year. They simply took off and went on a photo safari with, and I quote:
“. . . no plans, no agenda, no reservations.”
That? That is delicious. And yes, I do like using delicious as an adjective for things not edible or even tangible for that matter.
I want to do that. I’d like to do it before I’m too old to sit in the car without having to pee every quarter of a mile or not be able to carry a lens bigger than a 50mm. Hell, I don’t even know if I’ll ever be able to travel away from home without my son unless I leave him someone. This is my reality. However, at some point there will have to be an unplanned plan. A plan to not plan and just go. Just be. Just wander and photograph. Alone. No worries as to what anyone else wants to do or where to go or if they are bored. I’m certainly not cutting anyone’s meat, I’ll tell you that.
