Hey, sexy, wanna date?

In the entire time we’ve been married, Jeff and I had never spent one night together alone sans kids — until last weekend. Don’t get worried; this won’t be a sordid recount full of TMI. It was weird but not that kind of weird. It was weird because we went out to dinner and didn’t have to worry about getting home to relieve a grandparent from babysitting duties. We could’ve gone to the midnight show had we wanted to. We didn’t because Jeff had to be up the next morning for work but still, we could’ve. It was weird because we went to bed with every window in the house wide open versus closing and locking the ones in the kids’ rooms. We had been enjoying perfect weather so it was a lovely sleeping temperature. The next morning it was just me. Me. Me and coffee and open windows with gentle breezes and breakfast and no one waking me up even once. That? Weird.

It was Izzie’s first time sleeping away from home and she did really well. I was proud of her. We left her car seat there in case she decided against the fun that is my husband’s parents but she stayed all night and had fun with the rest of the kids. Up until now she had been so-so about my in-laws (okay, my mother-in-law) but it seems as she’s getting older she’s getting less freaked out so that’s good. In the past, when my mother-in-law was around, Iz would be on me like a spider monkey. I think Iz was less than thrilled about my MIL’s penchant for vigorous tickling and loud invasion of personal space in the form of, “Hiiiiiiiiiii!!!!! IIIIIIIIIIzzzzziiiieeee!” at levels only rivaled by Pink Floyd’s concert amps. I finally gathered this after calming Iz down enough one day to get her to tell me what it was that bothered her so much. Even then I thought it was both of my in-laws who scared her but there were a few times when my FIL came by alone and she was thrilled to engage in conversation and pleasantries. The genius I am deduced that Jeff’s mother was the one that freaked her out so much. Thank God that seems to be over.

We went out to Ikea for a few things I needed (and probably a few I didn’t) and then had dinner at the Macaroni Grill. Yes, it was hardly five-star but the food was good and I can’t give a thumbs-down to any restaurant that will serve me a delicious brick of tiramisu. The best part? I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it but NO KIDS.
