A shout out to Kelly
My friend Kelly told me that she’s addicted to my blog (bless her heart) and that she gets annoyed when I don’t blog so I’m dedicating this entry to her. I have the start of a summer cold and was feeling uninspired so I thought I’d use her as my motivation. Maybe I’ll work on something more substantial this evening but I make no promises.
I ended up going to Ikea yesterday and buying the things I listed on my blog. The only thing I didn’t get was the vertical CD holder and that’s just because I didn’t see it and forgot to look for it. Of course we ended up with more than I intended to buy but since it’s nowhere near close enough to run up there quickly, it’s not that big of a deal (or at least that’s what I’m telling myself).
It was a cool place but after all of the hype I wasn’t as wowed as I thought I might be. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy browsing. I was impressed at the quality of things at the prices they were offered. For instance, we bought Iain a chair for $9.99. It’s a dining room table-type chair with a blue pad that I bought for his room. It matches and it’s an extra place to sit for a friend or whatever. Sure, it’s not Thomasville but it’s not meant to be. However, for $10 it’s a decent chair. Their stuff is also very simple to assemble. That’s a huge plus.
What rocks the house about them is their dedication to recycling and cutting waste. If you ever visit you’ll know what I mean. I respect that kind of corporate responsibility and essentially making people environmentally friendly when they otherwise wouldn’t be.
I was eyeing some of the least expensive sofas to put in the basement for the kids to sit on and watch TV. The old love seat that was down there was decimated pretty quickly. It was also at least 50 years-old and already in questionable shape so I wasn’t too surprised at its early demise. What I liked about the Ikea sofa is that they come with a washable slipcover and you can buy different ones. It won’t last 50 years but, again, it’s not meant to. But for $250 or so, it’s a pretty good couch to watch TV on. Now, if we inherit a love seat (anything bigger won’t fit down the stairs), forget about Ikea — free is free, baby.
I must wrap this up and get the kids ready to leave. Gracie has a private music lesson and then gymnastics later this afternoon. I get to figure out what to make for dinner and then continue to organize my clutter into my new bookcase. I know you’re jealous.
Kelly, see you Saturday!
