Lusty chair love
The other day I was catching up on the literally hundreds of messages in my feed reader and came across this blog entry from design*sponge. The author, Grace Bonney, likes to do articles that give what she calls a sneak peek into various artists’ homes. That day’s was a look into the artist Abigail Percy’s Glasgow home. I scrolled through the feed not paying much attention but this image quickly caught my eye:
The print didn’t catch my eye as much as the actual structure of the chair. I’ve been needing a better chair to work in at my desktop than the dining room chair with a Target clearance chair pad (not that I’d ever badmouth Target clearance EVER) but I didn’t want a traditional, boring, ugly computer chair either.
It’s been on my mind for the last couple of days so I went back to the blog entry to see what she actually said about the chair. I wanted to shop around online but being that I’m very unsavvy about furniture design and what different styles are called, I wanted to get some more specific info than “cool chair I found on a blog that I’d like to own” to plug into Google. Imagine my delight when I saw that the chair could be found at Ikea (of course it could — the woman lives in Glasgow for Pete’s sake)!
Traditionally I’ve not been that big of a fan of modern design. I’m more of a Victorian girl myself (although not the super frilly things). However, this chair intrigues me. It’s fun. And even though it won’t match my dining room (the current home of my “office”), I don’t care. It’s on casters so it would be easy to move out of the way if people came by to visit. Or maybe I’d leave it there and celebrate with others my newfound eclectic taste.
Again, my potential new funky chair:
While on the Ikea site this also caught my eye:
I need storage space bad and this will solve some of the magazine, book and software CD problems. It will fit perfectly where I’d like to put it. I may even incorporate an electronics charging area on one of the shelves and solve that unsightly problem.
Top off things with some of these:
and some of these:
Off to Ikea on Monday!
