eBay jerk
Why do people need to tell a boldfaced lie? I sent a woman on eBay a question about a violin she was selling in her shop. This wasn’t some odd violin that someone was looking to get rid of. She claims to be a seasoned musician and she has a store with different new models. Okay. Sounds good. I sent her a question asking her where a particular violin I was thinking of bidding on was assembled. Nothing. I emailed her again through eBay (I don’t reveal my address unless it’s when I’m completing a transaction and I have to) and rather than apologizing and answering, she comes back with this:
Hi, I answered this yesterday. Please check your email. Thanks, Mary Anne
Um, I did check my email and eBay where it would have shown up no matter what. She never replied the first time. I explained to her how emailing through eBay works and then told her that without an answer to my question I would have to (unfortunately for her) pass.
I look at this experience as a good thing. First, if she’s dodging my question then she knows her answer will probably turn me off. Second, if she’s going to simply direct me to check my email as if I’m an idiot and not bother to answer the question then I’d rather not deal with her. She has really good feedback but I get that pain-in-the-ass vibe from her so I’d rather not deal with it.
Just as I should anyway, I’ll go to my local music store and see what they have and deal with someone in person. Gracie’s summer violin teacher told me to refer to her when I go in. She teaches private lessons there and she said that should something go wrong, I’d have a place to go to get the issue resolved. She’s right. Rather than have to deal with someone who is God-knows-where and probably not that interested in resolving an issue once I’ve paid and the item is shipped, I can go bust heads in person. I really should know better. I like to shop locally and support small businesses but sometimes it’s just quicker and more convenient to order online. With the kids, the thought of dragging them along and trying to browse makes me very afraid. However, with something like this, I should know better than to buy something sight unseen. It’s dumb.
