Free Wireless AMBER Alerts
Despite my being a bon-bon eating stay-at-home-mother, I don’t often catch shows like The View. This doesn’t really disappoint me since I think one of the hosts, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, is a rabid right-wing airhead but I’ll give her credit if credit is due.
She mentioned getting AMBER Alerts on her cellphone during a discussion about child abductions and I made a mental note to do the same. They are free and I urge everyone with a cell to sign up immediately.
From the Wireless AMBER Alert site:
Why was the Wireless AMBER Alerts Initiative created?
Statistics show the first three hours after a child’s abduction are most critical
to recovery efforts. Recognizing that wireless technology can help
galvanize communities to assist law enforcement in the search for and
return of the child, the membership of CTIA-The Wireless Association,
The Wireless Foundation, the United States Department of Justice and
the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children are honored to
offer the Wireless AMBER Alerts Initiative.By combining the efforts of the wireless industry with
NCMEC and law enforcement agencies, the Wireless AMBER Alerts
Initiative will be a catalyst for the more than 200 million wireless
subscribers to aid in the return of an abducted child.
Being out and about when an AMBER Alert is issued can help in keeping our eyes and ears open in the effort to spot victims and their abductors. AMBER Alerts are important but not as effective if you’re hearing about it hours later, sitting on your sofa watching the evening news . Learning of the alerts when you’re out in the community raises the odds that a child might be found and time is everything.
So, now that you have the web address, take the time out right now and sign up. We all hope this doesn’t happen to someone we love so let’s band together to help others in their time of need–you never know if you’ll need it next.
