Changes in sleepy land

Shaun CassidyToday marks the end of one era and the beginning of another. The crib that has housed three successive children over eight continuous years has been dismantled. In its place is a new twin bed for the big brother who finally has his own room and couldn’t be happier about it. Adorning the bed are clean, crisp Cars sheets (and crisp is a nice way of saying the sheets are the same thread count as burlap) and a new pillow with Lightning McQueen on proud display. It ain’t no Shaun Cassidy pillow but whatever.

In the other room Iz is sleeping in the bottom bunk and Gracie in the top. It’s amazing what a little switch in sleeping arrangements will do to a mother. No longer do we have the youngest of the family safely penned in and playing the role of baby. Now she’s in a big-girl bed and suddenly, well, a big girl. She still has a sufficient amount of baby chub to make her look like the baby of the family but the truth is that she’s getting older and so am I.

I didn’t realize how much crap they owned until I had to try and figure out where I’m going to put it all. Some will be donated and some pitched. When Iz was in by herself, we had a lot of left-over baby toys but we’re going to have to pick through and donate what none of them are using anymore. There really isn’t any room for it all and there’s no need to keep it around if they are too old for it. The whole house is turned upside down with moving kids, along with a general disorganization crisis. I need a cleaning lady and a nanny. No, seriously.
