They lost my baby! Sort of.

What a day I’ve had. I don’t know that I can do it justice recounting it now so I’m going to cut and paste part of an IM conversation I had with an inatimate object. I’ve edited for clarity and to protect the innocent.

[13:33] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: . . .teachers can really suck. (Simply venting here so if this is just Geeky’s monitor then hello, Monitor. I hope you don’t mind my venting. In fact, I don’t want to bother Geeky so if I could chew on your USB cable for a few, I’d appreciate it.)
[13:35] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: . . . I was waiting for a call from the principle of the school.
[13:35] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: Gracie plays violin.
[13:35] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: Today was practice for the string concert tonight at the high school.
[13:36] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: She was supposed to take the bus there, practice, eat lunch and then Jeff was supposed to pick her up so she could go to the fire station field trip.
[13:36] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: The bus would’ve brought her back but they couldn’t guarantee she’d be back in time for the field trip so her music teacher just suggested we pick her up.
[13:36] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: I talked to her teacher about it.
[13:36] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: In the AM she has K+ which we pay for.
[13:37] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: The regular kinder room was empty because the AM class went on the field trip. She was in the K+ room. We talked about this.
[13:37] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: She never went.
[13:37] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: Jeff went to pick her up and she wasn’t there.
[13:37] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: I was like, what??
[13:37] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: I figured she was left in K+ but I called the school anyway because I still wanted to know where the hell she was.
[13:38] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: I couldn’t get ahold of the teacher so I called the office and talked to the secretary who got the principal involved.
[13:38] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: She called back and at first didn’t get it that Gracie was supposed to be at String Day practice.
[13:38] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: They tracked her down so that’s the important part.
[13:38] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: String Day or not, I wanted to know exactly where my daughter was.
[13:39] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: But . . . I’m seething.
[13:39] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: Gracie will be devestated when she finds out that she missed out on practice.
[13:39] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: There was a bus ride, lunch and the experience itself.
[13:39] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: Nope.
[13:39] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: I’m so mad I could cry and most of it is because I know this will break her heart.
[13:42] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: Yes, Monitor, I’m irritated.
[13:42] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: But I do appreciate you listening.
[13:42] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: I might just use this rant in my blog.
[13:42] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: I don’t have the energy to re-write it anyhow.
[13:42] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: Tell Geeky I said hi. I’m guessing she’s at lunch or a meeting.
[13:43] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: She’s really cute you know.
[13:43] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: I’m quite fond of her.
[13:43] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: Well, I’ll see you later, M.
[13:43] MyIMIDthatI’mnotsharing: Don’t work too hard.

I don’t know if you’ve ever had that momentary terror where you’re not exactly sure where your kid is. You’re not totally freaking out (yet) because they are probably fine. However, the back of your mind still goes to the bad place so for a second you get that feeling in the pit of your stomach. I had that feeling. I was also pissed because my daughter wasn’t where she was supposed to be and missed out on something because about five adults couldn’t get on the same page. It all turned out okay in the end but when I was writing the above IM I was not a happy broad. The worst part is that her teacher was totally clueless when I came to pick Gracie up from school. I normally like her but dammit if she wasn’t as ditsy as a breeze today.
