Simple wishes

Ahhh, to be a three year-old. Today as we were walking back home from walking the older two to school, we stopped to pick some of the newly-puffed dandelions in the school’s lawn. Because I’m all for spreading weed spores to the neighboring lawns, I picked one since she was eager to make a wish. I told her to make a wish and then blow. Apparently her lung capacity makes more wishes available to her since it took quite a few blows to free the spores for takeoff.

First, she tightened her body as she shut her eyes tight. I thought she was following usual wish protocol whereby one makes a wish mentally and then blows but I can only blame myself for not properly outlining the rules with her. As her body relaxed, she opened her eyes and the following wishlist emerged from her little, hilarious head.

“I wish for . . . a snack.”

Puff.

“I wish for . . . a sandwich.”

Puff.

“I wish for . . . a snack.”

Puff.

“I wish for . . . to go potty.”

Puff.

“I wish for . . .  to wash my hands.”

Puff.

“I wish for . . . a snack.”

Puff . . . and then my leaning in and clearing the rest lest we never make it home before school let out seven hours later.

Oh, and yes, I do feed her. If you knew her, you’d rest assured she is not malnourished. Hell, the girl could miss a couple of meals. Just sayin’.
