Richard Gere wanted in India
You won’t be seeing Richard Gere in any Bollywood movies anytime soon since a warrant has been issued for his arrest in India. It seems Gere was seen kissing Bollywood actress and UK Celebrity Big Brother winner, Shilpa Shetty, on the cheek in what was there considered an obscene kiss at an AIDS awareness event in India. After a complaint was lodged by a local lawyer, an Indian court issued the warrant for Shetty and Gere’s arrest citing Indian public obscenity laws.
Gere, a devout Buddist, visits India regularly to meet with the Dalai Lama and is also involved with various HIV/AIDS-related charities and awareness programs in the country.
Consider this your “just when I thought I had heard it all” story of the day.
