More planning
Monday we have an appointment with the builder to discuss moving on with design. This means we’ll be getting into the nitty gritty of things to submit to the city both to close on the property and to get our building permit. After that it’s on to putting my mom’s home up for sale. The builder said that he’d take a look and see what needed to be fixed or whatnot. He even offers a staging service but I don’t know how much that is (everything costs money). I think I can handle that part.
I need to do some cosmetic things and clean out the junk. Well, I shouldn’t say junk. I just mean that she has an accumulation of things over the past 20+ years in that house (and some things from our house previous to that) and probably hasn’t looked at some of it in all that time. She’s a very clean person but clutter is her downfall. I totally see how I inherited that. Thankfully I manage it much better than she does. My mother also likes to stock up on things like food which ends up going bad faster than she can consume it. I expect to find canned goods and things in her lazy susan that are long expired. I’m not sure why she does that (the fridge is like that, too) and she’s done that since my dad was alive. It’s such a waste and I’ll be glad when I have some degree of control over it. She’s in a lot of pain most days so it’s going to be up to me to do the bulk of the work. Jeff might continue on 7/12s until August.
I’m going to ask the builder to let the Engineering Department know that we’re progressing on plans but won’t be ready to close by the 25th. He knows them well (I guess he’s on some building council or whatnot) so I’m hoping they’ll hang tight for us. I suspect they will since it’s easier to do that than nix the whole deal and have to go back to square one. I’ve dragged my feet but now we’re legitimately behind. It’ll be fine. I’m not worried about that. Hopefully I won’t be eating my words.
